RapidLock for Classroom Safety

description

RAPID LOCKDOWN SYSTEM

PURPOSE:  The RLS is designed for quick lockdown of public, private school, and college door locks. The device allows a person inside the room to lock the door instantly, without having to leave the room in the event of an emergency. Existing hardware does not need to be replaced and the cost of the unit is less than one third that of the double keyed lock system. It takes approximately 3-5 seconds to secure the door using the RLS.

FUNCTION: The unit is clamped on the handle by means of a ¼ inch bolt. Three screws are tightened which pushes polyurethane clutches toward the rosette on the door. This causes the spring pressure on the handle to be neutral. When the handle is turned to the open position the mechanism stays inside the door allowing the door to be pushed or pulled open.

ACTIVATING PROCEDURE: Each day upon arrival, the instructor will unlock the door and open the door, pull the inside handle to the open position, then re-lock the outside handle. In order to open the door, it just needs to be pushed from the inside or pulled from the outside. In the event of an emergency, the handle just needs to be lifted to the horizontal position from inside the classroom, instantly locking the door.

  INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Make sure the clutches are standing above the bottom of the part by about 1/32”
  • Clean the rosette with a de-greaser (Windex or similar)
  • Install the unit and start the 1/4” bolt in the threaded hole
  • While gently pulling on the handle, push the unit toward the rosette and snug the bolt down using the long end of the hex wrench
  • Tighten up the bolt 1/4 to 1/3 turn with the short end of the wrench in the bolt.
  • CAUTION: OVER-TIGHTENING COULD CAUSE BREAKAGE
  • Screw in the 3 10/32” screws. Set screws to push the (red) clutches until they make contact with the rosette, then turn each 1/4 turn to adjust.
  • Try the handle. If it stays in the open position the unit is adjusted properly, if it slips to the horizontal position, tighten set screws another 1/4 turn until handle stays in the open position.

ADVANTAGES OF THE RLS:

  • Free ingress and egress throughout the day while in the unlocked position.
  • In the event of an emergency the door can be locked in seconds from within the room.
  • The RLS can be installed on existing hardware and adjusted within three minutes, with little or no maintenance.
  • The device is less than one third the cost of a “double lock set.”
  • No searching for a key to lock the door from the inside, and no need to open the door and lock it from the outside.
  • The position of the handle can be confirmed as being locked or unlocked visually.
  • Eliminates the danger of jammed keyholes due to vandalism on the inside lock set.
  • By moving the handle to the unlocked position, the life of the lock set can be prolonged due to less wear and tear.

FAQs

Q: What is a RapidLock?

A: RapidLock is an innovative door-locking device that can be instantly placed in lockdown position from the inside of a classroom, office or other facility by faculty, staff or students—without a key.

Q: What is a RapidLock Lockdown System?

A: RapidLock Lockdown System is a RapidLock device installed on existing hardware of every door in an institution—enabling faculty, staff or students to immediately lock out intruders from the inside in an emergency situation—without a key.

Q:How does each RapidLock work?

A: The key on each existing lock allows faculty and staff to lock or unlock their door from the outside. Once a door is opened for the day, simply place the handle in the emergency-ready (down) position and relock the outside door handle with the key. To activate the emergency-ready feature, anyone inside closest to the door simply flips the handle up for an instant lockdown—no time wasted finding the key!

Q: How affordable are RapidLock units to purchase, install and maintain?

A: RapidLock unit is typically one-third the cost of a traditional double lock set. Each RapidLock can usually be installed on existing hardware and adjusted in three minutes, requiring little or no future maintenance.

RapidLocks are engineered of high-quality metal alloys that endure years of use. Their life is further enhanced because they are not engaged numerous times during the day compared to conventional
key locks.

Q: What else makes RapidLock the best choice for emergency lockdowns?

A: The lock position can be confirmed visually from a distance of 20 feet. For daily security, only authorized personnel carry a prescribed key to unlock or lock their door from the outside when necessary. RapidLocks eliminate jammed keyholes from vandalism, common on traditional locksets.
